The Drought continues

The drought continues.

And I’m not referring to the lack of adventures on the blog.

The lack of rain this year has been discouraging, disappointing and honestly consuming.

The local weather station reported 16 inches instead of the usual 28 inches by this time. And I know that we’ve consistently had less than that here.

The pond is down about 3 feet. I noticed a Great Blue Heron standing in the middle of it. I’m sure fishing has never been so easy.

Last summer on our way west, we stopped at a random Arby’s and my attention was drawn to the news as I munched on curly fries. A farmer stood in front of his grain leg talking about the drought they were experiencing and the refreshing rain that had just moved through “ I’ve been told “it always rains 10 minutes before it’s too late”.”

I’ve thought about that quote since then. It feels like we’ve been living in that 10 minute window for awhile now. But God is good. While bins might not bust this year, there will still be a harvest.

As we continue to learn to wait and to trust in this season of testing, we’re learning thankfulness in a new way- thankful for every drop of rain. Thankful when the skies are overcast and not drying out the land as much. Thankful for Gods provisions over and over and over again.

Jeremiah 17:7 But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

God is so good,

Kendra
